This update fixes many problems with the program and adds numerous features, streamlines others, and adds a more consistent professional look and structure to the environment amongst its many features. The new features are listed below. I'll won't provide a list of bug fixes since there are many.
This program should not be used unless you are using the 0.99b version of Win Gen. This archive name is WGNUPDT.zip. The four other required files are WGN099a.zip, WGN099B.zip, WGN099C.zip, WGN099D.zip. You should extract all the files from the WGN099x.zip files into a directory and then extract this WGNUPDT.zip over those files.
NEW FEATURES
Added a spelling checker for use by those who ALREADY have word 2.0x previously installed. If you need some advice on getting it to work, copy the msspell.dll into a directory in your path preferably into the WINDOWS subdirectory.
Enhanced options. A nice Word 2.0 like preferences dialog for setting preferences by category has been incorporated.
Balloon help. A very nice addition to the program. You can select the balloon help icon and then move your mouse pointer over any control or form and a very attractive blue background and white text similar to a cartoon balloon will be displayed providing you with a very short but concise description of what these controls or buttons are used for.
Each MDI child window's status bar and label bar can be turned on or off. Double click on the status bar to make it disappear and alt+click and/or ctrl+click on the listinging associated with the form to bring it back.
The notepad is more notepad like. It is has a clean and lean look.
The button bar has been enhanced to give it a more professional look, adding many of the common buttons found in other programs. The custom buttons have been resized down to give more screen real estate to the forms.
A new view menu where some of the options for turning on or off status bars, tool bars, etc. are located.
The listings title bar is cleaner and allows you to resize it down much smaller and yet the title is still readable.
Most of the form's title messages have been reduced for a more professional look.
Forms load a bit faster in cases where the drop down listings on the forms are loaded. Used the internal Windows API functions to accomplish the speed up.
The Delete Data files has been fixed to delete all selected files, and to optionally warn you of the deletion.
Code and other routines have been moved into seperate modules to speed up execution and reduce memory requirements.
A 3D look has been added to the common dialog boxes.
The retrieval of all family members is done using indexes and not on an SQL find criteria. This significantly enhances the retrieval of family groups.
MISC
The descendent tree has been fixed up and allows you to automatically expand the tree upon the retrieval of a family group.
The IFG form has been removed to eliminate waste. I found that it was never used and the information was gained elsewhere. So you no longer need the grid.vbx in your windows system directory (unless it is needed for other VB and Visual C++ applications.)
